A suspect has been charged with attempted murder and taking a vehicle without consent following a reported assault in Maidstone.
Police officers were called to the scene in Reculver Walk early on Saturday morning, where it is alleged a man in his early fifties was assaulted. The victim suffered injuries consistent with stab wounds before his white Sprinter van was stolen. He was treated by the South East Coast Ambulance Service and airlifted to a London hospital for further medical attention, from which he has since been discharged.
Following a search of the area, patrols located the victim’s van in Woolley Road and recovered a knife in Reculver Walk. Further enquiries led armed officers to arrest a forty-five-year-old man of no fixed address in Swanscombe later that same morning.
The suspect appeared at Maidstone Magistrates’ Court on Monday, where he was remanded in custody. He is next due to appear at Maidstone Crown Court on 17 August 2026.
Investigators are appealing for witnesses who have not yet spoken to the police to come forward. Motorists with dashcam footage and residents with private CCTV in the area are also asked to check for any relevant data.
