THROWLEY, FAVERSHAM – A quiet Sunday evening in the Swale countryside erupted into a high-stakes emergency when a fast-moving wildfire broke out near Broomfield Road, threatening local land, wildlife, and surrounding properties.
At 17:59, the Kent Fire and Rescue Service Control Room was inundated with urgent calls reporting flames spreading rapidly through dry terrain. Recognizing the severe risk posed by warm weather conditions, operators dispatched a massive response team. A fleet of 11 fire engines rushed to the scene alongside specialized all-terrain utility vehicles, an Animal Rescue Unit, and the Technical Rescue Unit.
Firefighters faced a grueling 90-minute battle against the flames. Navigating rugged, off-road terrain, crews deployed specialized equipment to surround the fire, beating back the blaze and establishing containment lines before the inferno could spread out of control.
Through rapid, aggressive action, firefighters officially extinguished the fire by 19:25. Miraculously, despite the scale of the emergency, no injuries were reported among residents or responding crews.
