Drivers on the M20 are getting an unexpected reprieve as Kent’s infamous Operation Brock contraflow system is being packed up early.
The lorry-stacking traffic scheme between Maidstone and Ashford was originally scheduled to stay in place until 24 August, but it’s claimed smoother border operations by French police and lower tourist numbers have allowed officials to ditch the cones ahead of time.
To dismantle the system, the motorway will close overnight from 20:00 on Sunday 16 August until 06:00 BST on Monday, affecting the coastbound stretch between junctions seven and nine, and the London-bound side between junctions nine and eight.
Once the scheduled work is completed on Monday morning, the M20 will fully reopen three lanes running in both directions.
