Health leaders across Kent and Medway are calling on eligible residents to book their free NHS flu jab immediately to protect themselves and help safeguard health services ahead of winter.
Booking is now live via the NHS App, by calling 119, or through local pharmacies and GP surgeries. No formal invitation is required. Vaccinations begin on 1 September for pregnant women and 1 October for all other eligible groups.
Eligibility Criteria for the Free NHS Flu Vaccine
- Adults aged 65 and older (including those reaching 65 by 31 March 2027)
- Individuals aged 18 to 64 with underlying health conditions
- Pregnant women
- Primary carers for older or disabled individuals, or those receiving Carer’s Allowance
- Residents living with immunocompromised individuals or residing in care homes
- People experiencing homelessness or staying in hostels/shelters
- Frontline health and social care workers (via employers, GPs, or pharmacies)
Last winter, nearly 19 million people in England received a flu jab, preventing an estimated 104,000 hospitalizations. Public health officials emphasize that early vaccination remains the single most effective defense against severe illness, complications, and seasonal strain on the NHS.
The national booking system has opened so eligible residents can make appointments ahead of the autumn vaccine roll out.
