A suspect has been charged after two cyclists died in a road collision near Gravesend.
The incident occurred at 7.47am on Sunday 6 September 2026, when a white car travelling south-west along Sole Street towards Meopham collided with three cyclists near the Round Street junction in Cobham.
Emergency services attended the scene, where two riders, a man in his 60s and a woman in her 50s, were pronounced dead. Their next of kin have been notified. A third cyclist was taken to a local hospital with minor injuries.
Police subsequently arrested three individuals in connection with the incident.
A 22-year-old local resident has been charged with two counts of causing death by dangerous driving, failing to stop at the scene of a road collision, and possession of a class C drug. He was remanded in custody ahead of a court appearance at Medway Magistrates’ Court.
The other two individuals arrested, a 21-year-old man and a 19-year-old woman, have been released on bail while enquiries proceed.
Investigating officers from the Serious Collision Investigation Unit are appealing for witnesses or anyone who saw the vehicle or cyclists prior to the crash. Anyone with relevant information, dashcam footage, or private CCTV is urged to contact police quoting reference RY/KA/072/26.
