The second of two dogs reported stolen from Sevenoaks has been reunited with her owner.
Kent Police received a report that, between 8.30pm and midnight on Tuesday 11 August 2026, entry had been forced into an agricultural barn in Penn Lane in Ide Hill and 2 dogs were taken. However, Nellie, a liver and white springer spaniel, was found safe and well on 14 August.
Betty, a black cocker spaniel, has now been safely located and both dogs have been reunited with their owner.
Investigating officer, PC Tom Costin, said:
‘We are pleased that both Nellie and Betty are back home safely.
‘Thanks to everyone who shared our appeal and to the community who located Betty; the family are thrilled to be reunited with her.
‘We continue to encourage anyone with information about the theft to call the west Kent appeals line on 01622 604100, quoting reference 46/132411/26.’
Police Advice
Superintendent Elena Hall said:
‘For many people, pets are much-loved members of the family, which is why animal theft can be so distressing.
‘We take all reports seriously and will carry out a thorough investigation, with the aim of reuniting animals with their owners wherever possible.
‘There are several steps people can take to help protect their pets and reduce the risk of them being targeted by criminals. This includes ensuring they are microchipped, using security features such as CCTV and outdoor lighting, and not leaving dogs unattended outside.
‘Anyone who becomes a victim of pet theft should contact us immediately. We would also urge people to report any suspicious activity, as information provided by the public can play an important role in helping us identify offenders and bring them to justice.’
