A 56-year-old Rochester man who subjected a child to a campaign of sexual abuse over three years has been jailed for more than two decades.
Marty Hunter repeatedly threatened the victim that they would get into trouble if they disclosed what was happening. The victim eventually reported the offences in 2021 after attending an NSPCC advice presentation.
Following an investigation, Hunter was interviewed, denied the allegations, and was subsequently charged with 13 counts including rape and sexual assault. He pleaded not guilty to all charges but was convicted following a trial at Maidstone Crown Court.
On Friday 25 September 2026, Hunter was sentenced to 21 years in prison, with an additional year to be served on licence upon his release. He was also made subject to a Sexual Harm Prevention Order.
Investigating officer Detective Constable Thabi Hollingsworth said:
‘Hunter targeted the victim over a period of years. He subjected them to the most appalling and terrifying campaign of abuse, using threats to stop them reporting it.
‘The victim has been incredibly brave in coming forward and giving evidence, having to relive their ordeal. I hope that they can now move forward knowing Hunter will be serving a lengthy prison sentence.’
