A drunken knife attack inside a Sittingbourne property has seen a violent offender jailed for nearly eight years after leaving his victim with permanent, life-altering injuries.

The assault erupted following an evening of drinking on 27 October 2022, which culminated in a minor altercation in the town’s High Street.

After being driven back to a residence in Leigh Road, a further argument broke out inside before the attacker lunged at his colleague, stabbing him twice in the chest and stomach. As the bleeding victim desperately attempted to flee upstairs, his assailant grabbed his shirt and pulled him backwards, causing him to crash down the steps and smash his head against a radiator and the floor.

Emergency services and air ambulance paramedics rushed to the scene, flying the victim to a London hospital where he remained for over a month receiving intensive treatment.

Whitby from Loughborough was arrested at the address and later admitted wounding with intent to cause grievous bodily harm. On Monday, 28 September 2026, he was sentenced at Maidstone Crown Court to seven years and nine months in prison.

Detective Constable Hannah Beale said:

‘What began as a drunken altercation has left a man with injuries that will impact him for life.

‘Whitby’s violence, which did not end when his victim tried to flee, show him to be a volatile offender who poses a danger to society.

‘The strength of our investigation has seen him put behind bars for a long time, and we hope this sentence brings his victim some closure.’
