On 4 August 2022, patrols arrived at a reported disturbance at a Week Street restaurant.
Upon arrival, the officers saw Sherilee Woodward outside the premises and went to speak to her as she matched the description of a person involved in the incident.
Woodward appeared drunk and was shouting racist abuse as members of the public were passing.
Kicked and bit
She was arrested and as officers attempted to search her, Woodward kicked one of them, then bit a second constable’s hand.
This caused a deep cut along with bruising and the officer went to hospital for medical attention.
Woodward, from Maidstone was later charged with assault occasioning actual bodily harm, assaulting an emergency worker and a racially aggravated public order offence.
Guilty
She pleaded guilty at Maidstone Crown Court and on Thursday 9 February 2023, the 44-year-old was sentenced to two years’ imprisonment.
DC Kim Bashford, of Maidstone CID, said: ‘Officers should be able to discharge their duty of protecting the public without suffering abuse or being assaulted.
‘In this case, a woman causing a considerable public nuisance also injured an officer who had to receive hospital treatment and undergo a course of medication. Woodward is now starting a prison sentence and visitors to Maidstone and its residents will be spared her offensive behaviour.’
