Although traffic saw less delays for Bank Holiday travellers hopping over the Channel from Dover at the weekend, there have still been traffic hold ups in the town.
On May 27th 2023, there were reports of holidaymakers heading for the Port of Dover caught in two-hour queues and passengers were told to allow up to two hours to pass through the port due to IT issues in France.
On the Dover roads situation at the weekend, Natalie Elphicke MP said: “It’s undoubtedly the case that much worse roads disruption was avoided this bank holiday weekend due to the detailed planning and preparations by the Kent Resilience Forum and the Port of Dover and swift deployment of traffic control measures.”
“The unfortunate disruption caused by French border computer issues underlines why it’s vital to see further roads resilience measures put in place to deal with unexpected issues.”
“We’ve secured £45million of funding to improve road resilience. Now we need to see that money spent on our local roads and Port. It’s vital to Keep Dover Clear and Kent moving.”
