A Swale suspect who hid in a child’s bed to avoid going back to prison has been jailed. On Thursday 17 October 2024, officers were on patrol in Minster-on-Sea when they saw Nathan Palmer who was wanted for a recall to prison.

He was also sought in connection with multiple theft offences and, on seeing the constables, Palmer fled into a nearby property. The officers pursued him into the address and, following a search, Palmer was located under a child’s bed. The 28-year-old was arrested and charged with four thefts of alcohol and food items from the Co-op in Aspen Drive, Sittingbourne.

The following day, Palmer, from Gillingham, pleaded guilty at Medway Magistrates’ Court to the shoplifting offences. He was ordered to complete the remainder of the sentence for which he was recalled. Then, in April 2025, he will serve two further months for the theft offences. Palmer was also ordered to pay £85 in court costs and a victim surcharge of £154.
