It has been reported by Kent Police that a man has been charged with blackmail after an elderly woman from Hawkinge was forced to withdraw £1,100 from a bank. Kent Police received a report of the incident on Tuesday, November 12. The victim, who is known to the suspect, was allegedly threatened into withdrawing the money.
Officers arrested a 44-year-old man from Sittingbourne the following day. He was subsequently charged with making an unwarranted demand for money with menaces. The man appeared at Folkestone Magistrates’ Court on Thursday, November 14, and was remanded in custody.
The case will next be heard at Canterbury Crown Court on Monday, December 16.
