Maidstone Borough Council (MBC) has announced at a Full Council meeting on 4th December that former councillor Mrs Cynthia Robertson has been officially appointed an Honorary Alderman.
Cynthia served as a councillor for 37 years, from May 1982 until May 1994 representing North Ward and from October 1998 until May 2024 representing Allington Ward. Cynthia served on most Committees and was Chairman of the North Area Planning Committee. She was also Mayoress during 1996/97.
The title of Honorary Alderman was made in recognition of her outstanding service and commitment to the borough.
The Honorary Alderman title can only be conferred to past members of the council who are considered to have rendered eminent services for at least 12 years in total. Recipients are granted the right to attend civic functions and events by invitation from the council.
Mayor of Maidstone, Cllr John Perry, who presented the award said,
“Cynthia has been a huge asset to Maidstone Borough Council, giving tirelessly during her years as a councillor. Her dedication to the people of the Borough is an inspiration to others and we are delighted to recognise her efforts in this special way.”
Cynthia expressed her gratitude for the honour, saying,
“I am humbled to have been named an Honorary Alderman of Maidstone Borough Council, after serving both the North and Allington Wards for so many years. It has been an honour and a privilege, and I look forward to continuing to help my local community as a resident in the future.”
The meeting was attended by local councillors, council staff and friends of family of Cynthia to celebrate her achievements.
