Officers, working with passive drugs dog PD Hudson, called in at licenced premises in the town on the evening of Friday 20 December 2024. Anyone who the dog suggested may have been carrying drugs was spoken to and searched.

A police officer was assaulted as he searched one man and the man and a woman, who are both in their 30s, were arrested on suspicion of a drugs offence and assaulting an emergency worker. The man has since been released on bail and the woman was given a caution. Six other people were dealt with by way of a community resolution after they were found in possession of small amounts of drugs. The operation was assisted by community safety officers from Ashford Borough Council.

Licensing officer PC Alistair Pringle said:

‘As police officers, we all too often see the links between illegal drugs and violence in the night time economy.’For that reason, we will continue to carry out operations of this kind, to take dangerous drugs off our streets and keep the public safe.

‘I would like to thank the licensees and their staff, as well as members of the public, for their support during our evening’s work.’
