A burglar was caught red-handed inside a Dartford supermarket in the early hours of Sunday morning after triggering an alarm. Police responding to a call at the Tesco Express on Henderson Drive at approximately 1:45 am found a smashed front window.

Upon arrival, officers witnessed movement within the store. A man aged 41, surrendered to the police as they approached the premises. A man from Gillingham, was arrested, and subsequent CCTV footage revealed him entering the shop armed with a shovel and a duvet cover. He was then seen leaping over a counter and helping himself to multiple packs of cigarettes.

Charged with burglary, he pleaded guilty at his first appearance at Medway Magistrates’ Court the following day. He has been conditionally bailed and is scheduled to appear at the same court for a hearing on Thursday, July 24th.
