Dozens of traffic offences have been reported and two vehicles have been seized following a road safety enforcement operation in Folkestone.

Kent Police officers, using marked and unmarked units, patrolled areas including Sandgate Road, Cheriton Road, Tram Road and the Park Farm area on Wednesday 18 June. Motorists were stopped and spoken to for a range of reasons as part of the road safety initiative.
In total, 36 traffic offences were recorded for incidents including mobile phone use at the wheel, seatbelt offences and having no valid MOT or insurance. By the end of the operation, officers had also seized two vehicles, issued two community resolutions for cannabis possession and completed four vehicle defect reports. A total of 20 other vehicles were stopped by officers who found reasons to give road safety advice.
Patrols were also joined by an Environmental Protection Officer from Folkestone and Hythe District Council who helped ensure relevant vehicles were complying with their waste carriage licences.
Folkestone Chief Inspector Mark Hedges said:
‘Road safety is everyone’s responsibility, and it is important that road users respect the rules of the road for their own wellbeing as well as the wellbeing of others and the environment.
‘Those motorists who were stopped and found to have committed offences were dealt with in the most appropriate way given each of their infringements and I hope this operation has gone some way to make people think twice before heading out in their car or van in an unsafe or criminal manner.’
