A 16-year-old boy has been charged with burglary and multiple driving offences after police recovered a stolen Vespa scooter on Sunday night.
The incident began around 11:40 pm. on Sunday, August 3, 2025, when a resident in Joyden’s Wood reported their Vespa had been stolen from their garage. Responding officers quickly launched a search which shortly after, resulted in nearby patrols spotting a motorcyclist behaving suspiciously. When officers signalled for the rider to stop, he abandoned the bike and fled on foot. A brief pursuit followed, resulting in the teenager’s detention and the seizure of the scooter.
The boy was charged on Monday with burglary and three driving offences related to the incident. He was also charged with the attempted theft of a motor vehicle from a separate address in Bexley on the same day.
He has been released on conditional bail and is scheduled to appear at Medway Magistrates’ Court on Tuesday, August 5.
