A man has appeared in court today following an incident in which a police officer sustained a serious hand injury while responding to a report of a man with a bladed weapon.
The incident unfolded at 7:46am on Wednesday, August 20, in Worcester Close, Istead Rise. Kent Police patrols, including armed officers, were called to the scene. Upon arrival, they engaged with a man outside a property who allegedly acted in a threatening manner. During the confrontation, a constable discharged a taser, and the man was subsequently detained. While the arrest was being carried out, an officer suffered a serious cut to his hand and was later taken to a hospital for medical attention. A search of a local address connected to the incident also led to the seizure of cannabis.
On the following day, a 29-year-old British national from Gravesend, was formally charged. He faces charges of causing grievous bodily harm with intent, possessing an offensive weapon with intent to threaten, and possession of cannabis. The suspect was remanded in custody and appeared before Sevenoaks Magistrates’ Court today, Friday, August 22.
