A yellow weather warning for heavy rain has been issued for South East England and London, effective from 10pm on Thursday, August 28, 2025, until 12pm on Friday, August 29, 2025. The Met Office is warning residents about potential disruption to transport and a risk of localized flooding.

The warning highlights the likelihood of heavy showers and prolonged periods of rain, which are expected to move quickly across the region, beginning in the southwest of England late Thursday night and reaching London and the South East by Friday morning. While not all areas will be equally affected, some parts could see significant rainfall, with 10-20 mm possible in less than an hour. Coastal areas are particularly at risk of more prolonged heavy showers, with the potential for 50-70 mm of rain in a few hours.

The Met Office warns that:

  • Bus and train services are likely to be affected, with longer journey times expected.
  • Drivers should anticipate spray and surface water on roads, which will also lead to longer travel times.
  • There is a likelihood of some homes and businesses experiencing flooding.

The rain is forecast to clear into the North Sea by early Friday afternoon.
