Dover District Council (DDC) is celebrating a major step forward in its commitment to tackle the housing crisis, welcoming families into 23 brand new affordable homes at the Sholden Meadows development on Sandwich Road. It has successfully acquired a diverse mix of properties at the site, ensuring homes are available to meet a range of community needs. These new additions include two, three, and four-bedroom homes, with 15 made available for affordable rent and eight for shared ownership.
This exciting delivery builds upon the council’s strong track record of increasing its housing stock this year. Earlier news saw DDC acquire five three-bed homes for shared ownership and two four-bed rental properties at the nearby Sholden Pastures development in May. This followed the welcoming of tenants to 48 affordable properties at Wingfield Place in Deal back in January.
Dover District Council is not stopping here, as it has also committed to purchasing a further 16 properties at Sholden Meadows later this financial year, underscoring its long-term strategy to provide secure, high-quality homes for its residents.
Cllr Pamela Brivio, DDC Cabinet Member for Housing, said:
“We are delighted to welcome families into these new homes. We’re very pleased to be able to offer these council homes for rent and new homes under the shared ownership scheme. As a council we are working hard to deliver all types of homes to suit the needs of our communities, and we remain committed to growing our council house numbers so we can provide secure homes to our residents who need them.”
