A man in his 20s is in a critical condition after a serious two-vehicle collision on the M20 motorway late on Wednesday night. The crash, involving a grey Volkswagen Polo and a white Mercedes-Benz Sprinter van, occurred on the coastbound carriageway between junctions 8 and 9 at 11.36 pm.
Emergency services, including Kent Police and paramedics, rushed to the scene. The driver of the Polo sustained serious injuries and was immediately airlifted to a specialist London hospital, where he remains as doctors battle to save his life. His family has been informed of the devastating incident.
The driver of the van was also taken to hospital but was treated for minor injuries and has since been discharged.
Kent Police’s Serious Collision Investigation Unit (SCIU) has launched a full inquiry into the circumstances surrounding the crash and investigators are making an urgent appeal to any motorists who were travelling in the area around the time of the collision to check their dashcam footage. Officers believe the video evidence could be crucial to determining exactly how the incident occurred.
“We are working to piece together the events leading up to this serious collision,” a police spokesperson said. “Anyone who was on the M20 near Maidstone shortly before 11:40 pm on Wednesday night and has dashcam footage should contact us immediately.”
