MARGATE — Authorities are investigating a suspected case of arson after a fire broke out at a derelict property on Northdown Road on Sunday, February 8, 2026.
The Kent Fire and Rescue Service (KFRS) was alerted to the blaze at 13:32. Two fire engines were immediately dispatched to the scene. Upon arrival, crews discovered a fire inside the abandoned structure and acted quickly to prevent the flames from spreading to neighbouring properties.
Firefighters utilized a main jet to bring the fire under control and by 13:55, the blaze had been successfully extinguished. Following the suppression of the flames, crews deployed high-pressured fans to clear the building of heavy smoke and ensure the area was safe.
KFRS has confirmed that no injuries were reported during the incident. However, early assessments by fire investigators suggest that the fire did not start accidentally.
