Kent Police are appealing for witnesses and information after a man sustained serious head injuries during what was reported to be an unprovoked assault in Rochester. The incident occurred on the High Street at approximately 11:22 pm on Friday, 6 February 2026.
According to investigators, the victim was standing with friends when they were approached by a group of three individuals who appeared to be filming interviews with members of the public. While the group was engaged in conversation with the interviewer, one man from the trio suddenly punched the victim. The force of the blow caused the man to fall to the ground, resulting in a serious head injury.
Immediately following the assault, the suspect reportedly took hold of the woman who was filming and quickly led her away from the scene. They were followed by the third member of the group, who was holding a microphone. The victim was subsequently transported to a local hospital, where he remains receiving treatment for significant injuries to his face and head.
The primary suspect is described as being of medium build and approximately 6ft tall. At the time of the incident, he was wearing a black jacket with the hood pulled up, light grey jogging bottoms featuring white writing down one leg, black trainers, and white socks.
Detectives are also seeking to identify and speak with the two associates who were with the suspect. The man carrying the microphone is described as Black and was dressed entirely in black clothing, including a puffer jacket, jogging bottoms, trainers, and a cap. The microphone he used was black with white casing. The woman filming the encounter was using a mobile phone with a top-mounted light. She is described as White with long brown hair tied up, and was wearing a black coat, blue jeans, and white trainers.
