A London man has been ordered to serve a decade behind bars following a brutal, unprovoked assault on a stranger in Ashford. The sentencing of 27-year-old Amar Bostan follows a violent incident that began late on the evening of July 24, 2025.

Kent Police were alerted to the scene on Hardinge Street after multiple witnesses reported a man being held down, kicked, and repeatedly stabbed. During the course of the struggle, the assailant robbed the victim of his mobile phone, car keys, and cash.

While the attacker fled the scene toward Canterbury, emergency responders arrived within minutes to provide aid to the victim, who suffered several wounds to his leg. He was subsequently treated at a local hospital and has since been discharged. Meanwhile, armed officers tracked a getaway vehicle to the M20, where they intercepted an Audi travelling London-bound. Bostan, from Haringey, was found in the passenger seat and taken into custody.

Despite initially maintaining a plea of not guilty to charges of robbery and possession of a bladed article, Bostan changed his plea to guilty on the first day of his trial. His legal proceedings concluded on Friday, May 1, at Canterbury Crown Court, where a judge sentenced him to 10 years in prison.

Detective Constable Tony Gregory said:

‘This was a violent and unprovoked attack which could easily have resulted in the loss of life and harm to members of the public at the scene. I am pleased that a dangerous individual like Bostan has received a substantial custodial sentence, preventing him from causing further harm to the community.’
