Emergency services have launched a major response in Margate today, 7 September, following reports of a dramatic field fire sending thick smoke across the surrounding area.
Fire crews rushed to the scene off Valley Road shortly after 3:30 pm, with five fire engines and a specialist off-road wildfire unit currently battling the flames. Teams are working to bring the blaze under control and extinguish the fire as quickly as possible.
Due to heavy smoke drifting across the neighbourhood, residents living near Valley Road and anyone travelling through Thanet are being strongly urged to keep their windows and doors firmly shut.
Local authorities are asking the community to pass this urgent safety advice on to neighbours, elderly residents, and anyone nearby who might not have internet access to stay updated.
