Report and Pictures by Ray Duff – Folkestone harbour was once again buzzing with energy as hundreds of music fans, locals, and visitors from across the country gathered for the long-established annual Skabour Music Festival at the Grand Burstin Hotel.
The festival’s enduring popularity saw the celebrations launch early on Thursday evening with top-tier DJs and popular live band Heroes kicking off the party, followed by a lively late-night Northern Soul set. By Friday morning, even larger crowds had arrived as music kicked off at noon, featuring memorable performances from Lee Thompson, The Decatonics, and The Specials Ltd, while late-night DJs kept the energy high with classic ska and reggae tunes.

Saturday started bright and early at 10.30am with Ade Dawkes hosting the festive Ska and Reggae Quiz. The afternoon brought a vibrant lineup including The Skatastards and Freddie Notes & his Roots Reggae, culminating in late-night DJ sets by Mick “Longshot” Jeffries, G-Ranch, and Fortojam.
Sunday delivered one of the weekend’s highlights with the annual giant Scooter Ride Out at noon, delightfully sent on its way by local piper Chris Bone. A stellar final day of music followed, featuring standout sets by The Locomotives, Blue Mountain Reggae Band, and Total Jam, alongside closing DJ acts that wrapped up the weekend on a high note.

Beyond the main venue, festivalgoers spilled over into local harbour spots including The Ship on The Stade and The Royal George, as well as bustling town centre establishments, providing a fantastic boost to local businesses. Organisers are already gearing up for Skabour 2027, with Early Bird tickets and further news updates currently available on the festival website.
