Centenarian Maria Corbo with Dover & Deal MP, Natalie Elphicke

One of Walmer’s oldest residents, Maria Corbo, celebrated her 101st birthday on Friday with an extra special surprise arranged by Dover & Deal MP, Natalie Elphicke.

It was last month when Reverend Deacon Gerald Watkins wrote to Mrs Elphicke to say that last year when Maria reached 100 years old she didn’t get a letter from the Queen.

So this year, for her 101st birthday, Mrs Elphicke arranged a surprise visit to Maria, and a letter from the Prime Minister, Boris Johnson.

Mrs Elphicke MP said: “I was pleased to help make it an extra special 101st birthday for Maria, with a letter from the Prime Minister.

“My congratulations and best wishes to her. I hope she had a wonderful time.”
