Parish Council Chairman steps down....14 May 2003

Hawkinge parish council chairman John Heasman shocked councillors when he announced at this evening's (14 May) Annual Meeting he would not be standing for the office of Chairman .....more

He will however continue to serve the village as a councillor.

John has been Chairman of the council for 12 years and a councillor for twenty seven. The council members thanked him for his service to the community which was greeted with applause from fellow councillors and the public.

Incoming Chairman Cyril Trice is a relative newcomer to the Parish Council. He was a former parliamentary candidate for the LibDems in Medway in 1992 when he was beaten into third place behind Conservative Dame Peggy Fenner 25,924 votes, the current MP Labour rebel Bob Marshall-Andrews 17,138 votes.

Cyril standing on the LibDem ticket polled 4,751votes, 4746 more than he received to become the new Parish Council Chairman.
