SHEPWAY'S RUBBER HOUSE WINS TOP AWARD

The Marco Goldschmied Foundation has awarded this years Stephen Lawrence Prize for achitecture to a beach house at Dungeness.

The rubber-clad house Vista, on Dungeness beach, was designed by architect Simon Conder. It is covered in a rubber skin similar to a wetsuit.

Built on the site of a 1930s fishing hut, it was completed in November 2003.

It is situated close to Dungeness nuclear power station and is a short distance from the late film-maker and artist Derek Jarman's famous house.

The prize is part of the Royal Institute of British Architects (RIBA) award scheme.
