SAFETY FORUM SPEEDING PROPOSALS BACKED BY LIB DEMS

Local Liberal Democrat councillors Dave Callahan, Christena Smith, and Peter Smith are backing the 20mph speed limit proposals put forward by the Hawkinge Community Safety Forum back in June 2004.

The councillors are asking residents to sign a petition for Haven Drive to become a 20mph zone.

This is a step short of the proposals put forward by the  Safety Forum who are fighting to introduce 20mph speed limits to residential roads in Hawkinge. They wrote to Kent County Council, Shepway Council and Hawkinge Parish Council  on 2 August 2004 with their concerns. (read letter)

The Hawkinge Gazette backed the Forum and a village online poll showed overwhelming support from residents in favour of the plan. (see poll result)
