Council tenants from across the district will be gathering at Folkestone’s Leas Cliff Hall on Saturday (13 November) when Shepway hosts the fifth annual ‘Joining Forces’ conference.

The theme of the South East Kent Tenant Conference, in the newly-opened Channel Suite, is ‘Including Everybody.’   It will look at the issues of diversity and coincides with the launch of a government-funded diversity pack used by tenants’ groups.

“Council tenants and housing association tenants will be able to learn new skills, network and share common problems. They will also be able to take part in workshops covering domestic violence, asylum seekers and refugees in Kent, said Graeme Bosley, Performance and Community Development Manager at Coast and Countryside Housing Services.

Speakers include Lord Victor Adebowale, Chief Executive of Turning Point, who was in the first round of ‘People’s Peers’ in 2000 and sits on the cross bench at the House of Lords.  Also speaking is Ash Charlton of Ace Training who will explain the work that has gone into producing the diversity pack.

“The conferences are very popular and we hope this year’s will be the best yet. We are expecting more than 100 tenants from across the county to attend.  Some would have been to previous events and but we hope to attract new tenants who want to get involved for the first time,â€? said Graeme.
