Shepway set to spend £5m on housing improvements

SHEPWAY SET TO SPEND £5M ON HOUSING IMPROVEMENTS

More than £5million worth of investment will be made through Shepway Council’s housing programme in 2004/05 if Cabinet agrees the spending o­n Tuesday (30 March).

Cabinet will be asked to release a total of £5,568,000 from the Council’s Capital Investment Programme for a range of improvements.

The improvement programme – o­ne of the biggest in recent years – includes spending £1,450,000 o­n modernising kitchens in 260 council homes across the district,  £859,000 o­n replacing heating and hot water systems at Romney Marsh House and other properties and £905,000 for private sector renovation and disabled facilities grants.

Other projects in the programme include external improvements (£635,000), new roof covering (£194,000) and grants to registered social landlords (£450,000).
