COUNCIL BLOCKS FURTHER DEVELOPMENT

Swingfield Parish Council (SPC) has succeeded in blocking further development on land adjacent to 385 Canterbury Road, Densole, known locally as Black Horse Meadow, after plans for 98 homes on the site were withdrawn by developers.

The parish council made an application to Shepway District Council (SDC) for a Direction under Article 4 of the Town and Country Planning (General Permitted Development) Order 1995 to remove permitted development rights to the field.

The application was agreed at a district council Cabinet meeting last week(4 January).

The order will take immediate effect and has given delegated authority to the Director of Regulatory Services to take away all permitted development rights.

Shepway Council took this prompt action as it agreed with SPC that the developer was actively marketing the site both locally on advertising boards and on the internet.

Acting Chairman of Swingfield Parish Council Cllr Colin Tearle said: " This is most welcome news for the residents of Densole.

"The quick action by the parish and district councils clearly demonstrates their resolve. I believe this is the first time this action has ever been implemented by Shepway Council."
