Last night (13 July)  local tories voted that Damian Collins will succeed Michael Howard  as the parliamentary candidate for Folkestone and Hythe.

He beat off the challenge from two women candidates, Harriet Baldwin who fought Stockton North in 2005, and Laura Sandys, a businesswoman who has been an active member of the Conservative Party since she was born.

All three were on David Cameron's so called 'A' list.

Adverting executive, Damian Collins came second in the 2005 General Election  to Labour's Sally Keeble in Northampton North.
