A photograph of the iconic White Cliffs on the Dover Town Council website was in fact taken on the coast of Sussex, it has been revealed.

The faux pas came to light after a local photographer spotted the blunder when logging onto the website.

The council have admitted their mistake and a spokesman said it had used a picture of the Seven Sisters cliffs in Sussex to save money and avoid paying copyright.

Dover Town Clerk Mike Webb told the BBC: "We'll hold our hands up, we're transparent. If people view it as a mistake, then OK, mistake it is."
