Early Christmas present for Kent steam train buffs as Xmas excursion stops for water at Folkestone West

On Friday 22nd December the annual Cathedrals Express / Whitecliffs Circular steam hauled rail excursion, operated by Steam Dreams, is to run though Kent.


It is due to be hauled by the recently restored to mainline working Stanier Black Five locomotive no. 45212. (pictured above)


The trip leaves London Victoria at 1058 AM and operates via Bromley South and Otford to Maidstone East (stops for water 1226-1244). Thereafter via Ashford Intl (1311-1312), Wye, to arrive Canterbury West 1336.

The return trip leaves Canterbury West at 1338 and passes with short stops via Minster, Deal (1408), Dover Priory (1422-1423), Folkestone Warren, to arrive at: Folkestone West where the excursion stops to collect water between 1436 -1451

It then returns via Ashford Intl (1508), Paddock Wood (1533), Sevenoaks and Bromley South to London Victoria (arr 1646)

It should also be noted that on Friday 15th December the same locomotive is rostered to leave Ashford Intl with an excursion to Salisbury at approx 8 am.

The return journey though is diesel hauled. No full timetable is listed as yet.

Two possible 2018 highlights so far are: Sat 14th February 70013 'Oliver Cromwell' listed for a trip to Canterbury and East Kent; and Sat 19th May 60163 'Tornado' is also rostered for a Canterbury and East Kent trip.
