Two men who were caught by police burgling a Herne Bay pharmacy have been jailed for a total of 46 months.

Kenneth Glover and Jamie Collings pleaded guilty to burgling the pharmacy in King’s Road in the early hours of 4 December 2016.

Glover, aged 39 from Herne Bay, was jailed for 24 months and Collings, aged 39 and of no fixed address, was jailed for 22 months at Maidstone Crown Court on Monday 20 February 2017.

The pair set off the alarm when they broke into the pharmacy and the police and key holder were notified by the alarm company.

Caught on camera

CCTV cameras were panned to the building and someone was seen climbing out of a skylight.

Two police patrols arrived minutes later and found Collings half-hidden in a cupboard inside the pharmacy. He had a chisel, a torch, gloves and blister packs of prescription drugs.

Hiding in a hedge

Glover was discovered hiding in a hedge at the back of the building. Police found a packet of Diazepam on him. Seven of the tablets were missing.

During a subsequent search of Glover’s home more prescription drugs were seized along with a list of drugs and prices on a scrap of paper.

Drugs shopping list

Investigating officer Detective Constable Maria Goodwin said: ‘This was essentially a drugs shopping list, which suggested the pair were stealing to order.

‘However they were also believed to have sampled the goods first, as they both had to be taken to hospital suffering from the ill-effects of drug use.’

Both men were also ordered to pay a £140 victim surcharge.
