Firefighters were called to reports of a lightning strike in Middle Mead, Folkestone last night 29 May.

Firefighters were called at 1.39am.

It is believed the smoke alarm alerted the occupants, who smelt smoke coming from their loft.

They rang 999 and then waited outside their home until fire crews arrived.

Firefighters carried out an internal and external thermal scan of the property and made the house safe.

A lightning strike to the roof aerial is thought to have resulted in an electrical power surge within the property, causing burning to the TV aerial cable within the loft space and a total electrical failure within the house.

Fire crews left the scene at around 2.15am.
