With this year’s Community Grants Scheme now launched, the Chairman of Dover District Council (DDC) has been visiting community groups who were successful in last year’s scheme.

Community groups looking for funding have been invited to apply for grants from the DDC Community Grants Scheme 2017-2018.

The closing date for applications is 18 August 2017.

DDC is offering funding to groups that can show benefit to the local area, with groups invited to apply for individual grants from £100 up to £1,000.

Last year, more than £22K was allocated to 29 different community groups across the district. One of the successful projects was the Sandwich Concert Band.

Cllr Sue Chandler listened to one of their concerts at the Deal Memorial Bandstand.
The Sandwich Concert Band received a grant from the DDC Community Grant Scheme to help pay for new musical scores. The band practices weekly at the Phoenix Centre in Sandwich, and aims to deliver around four indoor concerts each year plus an outdoor bandstand performance.

Kate Robinson, Chairperson of the Sandwich Concert Band said: “We were delighted to meet the Chairman and to play at the Memorial Bandstand. It was a very successful afternoon, and it was great to play a variety of pieces to such an appreciative audience. We are extremely grateful to DDC for the Community Grant, which has helped us to continue to expand our repertoire for the future.”
Cllr Sue Chandler, Chairman of Dover District Council said: “It was great to listen to the Sandwich Concert Band and to meet the musicians. It was wonderful to see the large crowd gathered on Walmer Green, and to see people thoroughly enjoying the free performance and the high calibre of the music on a sunny Sunday afternoon. We’re delighted to be able to support groups like this with the Community Grants.”
