Kent Fire and Rescue Service were called to the scene of a fire involving a roof struck by lightning in Ashford at 5.30pm this afternoon, 8 August.

Four fire engines and a height vehicle are currently at the address of a three storey property used as residential flats in Waltham Place in Stanhope, Ashford.

All residents have been accounted for and there are no reported injuries, although it is thought the occupants of four flats (1 child and 8 adults) will need rehousing.

Firefighters are working in extremely challenging weather conditions to extinguish the fire using breathing apparatus and hose reel jets.

Crews are using the height vehicle to remove the facia and soffits of the roof to access the roof to check for possible fire spread. The Red Cross Volunteers and the KFRS Volunteer Response Team are at the scene to offer residents emotional and welfare support.
