Ninety eight burglary related arrests were made in December as part of an annual burglary campaign run by Kent Police.

The campaign, Operation Castle, runs each year, typically between Halloween and the first week of New Year – a time where burglary reports have historically increased due to darker evenings and people leaving their properties vacant to attend festivities.

In total 727 reports of residential burglaries were reported across Kent in December.

Of these, 293 took place in the force’s North Division, an area which covers Dartford, Gravesham, Medway and Swale. Twenty one charges were also made over the month.

In West Kent, an area which covers Maidstone, Sevenoaks, Tonbridge and Malling and Tunbridge Wells, 211 burglaries were reported with seven charges made.

In East Division, an area which covers Ashford, Canterbury, Dover, Shepway and Thanet, 225 offences were reported with 12 charges made.

Is it yours?

As part of their investigations, officers recover items which they believe have been stolen from burglaries.

These items are posted on the ‘Is it yours?’ section of the Kent Police website and victims of burglary or theft, are encouraged to visit it.
