Two days later it was reported that between 8pm on Wednesday 7 February and 8.40am the following day, cash from a till was stolen during a burglary at a hair salon in New Rents. (ZY/06702/18)

Inspector Jason Atkinson said: ‘We are keeping an open mind as to whether these incidents might be linked.

‘We do want to take this opportunity to remind business owners to review their safety measures and make regular checks of any areas when it may be easier for criminal to break in.

‘Don’t leave large amounts of money on-site, ensure the building is secure at the end of each day. Make sure windows are locked.

‘Consider installing CCTV, alarms and security lighting.’
