Man wakes up in the middle of the night to find suspected burglar in his Ramsgate property

Kent Police detectives investigating a burglary in Cannon Road, Ramsgate have a man in custody after detaining him near the scene.

The burglary was reported to police after the victim woke up to find the suspect in his property during the early hours of Wednesday 11 July.

The victim shouted and the suspect ran away from the address.

Officers arrived at the scene and discovered some jewellery in the back garden of the house.

Jewellery, cash and keys were among the items believed to have been stolen.

At around 1.30am a 48-year-old man of no fixed address was arrested in a nearby road on suspicion of burglary. He was also arrested on suspicion of theft after a car was stolen from outside a property in Augusta Road, Ramsgate between Saturday 23 and Sunday 24 June.

The man remains in custody and enquiries are ongoing.
