Screaming woman scares off man clutching hammer after attempted street robbery in Whitstable

Witnesses are being sought following a report of an attempted robbery in Whitstable.


It was reported that at around 5am on Wednesday 12 September 2018 the victim, a woman in her 40s, was walking towards the mini roundabout in Belmont Road when she was approached by a man holding a hammer and he asked for her bag several times.

The victim refused and screamed, and the suspect then ran off empty-handed in the direction of Millstrood Road. No physical contact was made during the incident.

The suspect was described as a white man, aged in his late 30s and was clean-shaven. He was reportedly wearing a dark hooded top with writing on it, and dark trousers.
