Around one hundred items reported stolen following a burglary at St Nicholas at Wade were just some of the items recovered by Kent Police following a search in Margate.

On Tuesday 8 January 2019 officers searched a property in Northdown Road, Margate and recovered some 200 items believed to be stolen. Around half of those are thought to have been taken during a burglary at a storage unit in the St Nicholas at Wade area between 23 and 24 September 2018.

Items include unique jewellery, custom made curtains and cushions, furniture, lamps, and kitchenware.

Two people were arrested in connection with the burglary. A 49-year-old woman was arrested on suspicion of handling stolen goods and a 13-year-old boy was detained on suspicion of burglary. Both are from Margate and have since been released pending further investigation.

Enquiries are ongoing to identify and contact the owners of the remaining seized items.

Investigating officer, Sergeant Liam Johnson said: ‘Fortunately a victim of a burglary reported last year has been able to prove ownership of some of the seized items through having photographs so has been reunited with them.

‘We would always encourage people to document their belongings, take photographs of them, and keep receipts and details of serials numbers separate and safe.

‘So if you do ever find your home or property targeted by burglars, it will increase your chances of having the stolen goods returned to you, and also make it harder for any thieves to sell anything on.’
