It won’t just be Santa Claus coming to town this Christmas thanks to Folkestone & Hythe District Council (F&HDC).

Charges in all of the council's pay and display car parks and on-street parking bays across the district will be waived on the three Saturdays leading up to the big day  to encourage Christmas shoppers.

This means parking will be free on Saturday 7 December, Saturday 14 December, and Saturday 21 December.

Cllr David Godfrey – F&HDC Cabinet Member for Housing, Transport and Special Projects – said: “There are so many reasons to shop locally, and we’ve got an array of businesses with excellent gift ideas for family and friends.

“Shoppers can browse the comprehensive offering of Folkestone’s town centre and Creative Quarter, enjoy the charm of Hythe High Street, or visit the host of unique traders on the Romney Marsh.

“This gesture highlights just how much we value our local shops and businesses – big and small – and we want to help people revel in the wide variety of shopping experiences this district is blessed with.”

Some car parks are privately run and will still be charging, so drivers are urged to check signs before they park.
Residents can also apply for a permit to park in council-run car parks all year round for £60. This allows you to park your vehicle for three hours in long-term car parks and two hours in short-term car parks.
Terms and conditions apply – visit www.folkestone.hythe.gov.uk/parking/permits   for more information.
