Man held in custody over reported string of shoplifting offences in Folkestone

An arrest has been made following reports of shoplifting at supermarkets in Folkestone.

Police officers have arrested a 29-year-old man of no fixed address on Tuesday 12 February 2019 in connection with an incident at Park Farm Retail Park on Sunday 10 February at around 12.40pm.

It was reported security staff and an off-duty police officer had been threatened after approaching an alleged shoplifter who then ran away. Alcohol was reportedly stolen during the incident.

The man arrested is also being questioned in connection with three other reports of shoplifting and a robbery at a supermarket in Folkestone between 7 and 10 February 2019.

He remains in police custody and enquiries are ongoing.
