A grant from Folkestone & Hythe District Council will help a popular air display reach new heights this summer.

Members of the Council’s Cabinet committee have agreed to set aside £22,000 for a display by the RAF as part of Armed Forces Day celebrations in Folkestone.

The event is being organised by Folkestone Town Council, who have allocated £10,000 for the display on 30 June.

Cllr John Collier, Cabinet Member for the District Economy, said the event could bring thousands of people to the town.

He said: “Folkestone has proudly hosted an air display for the past three years, providing a welcome boost to our local economy and showcasing our fantastic town and coastline.

“This year it is to be combined with Armed Forces Day and we would all like it to be bigger and better than ever.

“Thanks to this contribution from Folkestone & Hythe District Council the organisers will be able to fund a varied, one-hour display instead of the 20-minute show we have previously seen.

“We are hoping that the Red Arrows will be part of this year’s display and if it is confirmed by the RAF I hope it will prove to be a real highlight of what is already shaping up to be a fantastic summer season.”
