Tankerton Slopes Photo: Canterbury City Council
Canterbury district’s beaches have won a hat-trick of gongs in this year’s prestigious beach awards.
|
The annual awards scheme, which is run by Keep Britain Tidy, recognises the UK’s
best beaches. Tankerton has scooped a prestigious Blue Flag, while Herne Bay and
Reculver have both picked up a Seaside Award.
Judging criteria includes cleanliness, safety, high environmental standards and
passing tough international bathing water quality tests. It continues a run of
success for all three beaches stretching back several years, which demonstrates
their consistent ability to meet the required grade.

It’s the job of the council’s Foreshore team to manage the beaches, and
Foreshore Manager Matthew Young said he was pleased to have picked up another
three awards for this summer.
He said: “Securing these awards is a tough process and only the very best
beaches are successful, so it’s fantastic news for the district.
“We’re heading towards the peak season now when the beaches will be packed and
people will be enjoying the water. They can do so in the knowledge that it’s
safe and clean, with great facilities close by, guaranteeing a wonderful day
out.”
