Folkestone man arrested in connection with distraction burglary in Wye

A computer-generated image of a man has been, shown above, has been issued as part of an investigation into a distraction burglary in Wye.

The incident took place at an address in Little Chequers between 2.30pm and 4.20pm on Friday 28 June 2019.

A man is reported to have knocked on the door claiming to be there to check the water supply. One of the elderly residents was asked to step outside to discuss where pipes would be fitted in the garden.

She was outside with the man for around 30 minutes before he left. When she went back inside she noticed money had been taken and believes a second person could have entered the house whilst she was outside.

A 34-year-old man from Folkestone was arrested on Wednesday 10 July 2019 in connection with the incident and released on bail pending further enquiries.

Officers have also received similar reports of burglaries in Deal and would also like to hear from anyone with information regarding these incidents:

During the daytime on Thursday 27 June a man visited a house in Dola Avenue, Deal, claiming to be checking the water supply. A quantity of cash was reported stolen. (crime report reference 46/127817/19)

At 4pm on Thursday 4 July 2019, a man called at a property in Pilots Avenue in Deal asking to check the water supply. It was only when the victim asked for proof of identification that the man left. Nothing was stolen. (crime report reference 46/128683/19)

Residents are reminded to be vigilant, look out for their neighbours and be aware of thieves who use distraction techniques to carry out crime. Keep doors and windows locked, and do not let strangers into your home unless you can confirm their identity.

Any suspicious activity should be reported to the police immediately either via 101 or by calling Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555111.

Detectives investigating the burglary in Wye are asking witnesses or anyone who noticed anything suspicious in the area to call Kent Police on 01843 222289 quoting 46/124005/19. People who recognise the man pictured is also asked to call.

Anyone with information regarding either burglary in Deal should call the appeal line above, quoting the relevant crime reference number.’
